Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I worked in testing capacity management for a telecommunications company.
The role involves:
-attending lots of virtual client and internal team meetings (~4-6 hours a day)
-using excel to manage the testing capacity
During the meetings we discussed which release cycle changes should go into to use the available capacity in the most efficient/optimal way.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, from leading meetings with seniors to supervising and training new joiners on my role.
When the client was unhappy with the testing plan, it was also my responsibility to come up with a new solution although there’s lots of people who are around to help you if you need help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
As I worked as part of a global team, I developed my communication skills and organisation skills by adapting to different time zones and work cultures.
There are great learning opportunities as an intern like supervising new joiners to my role and leading client meetings.
There is lots of training opportunities to get involved in outside your role. From those I gained process mining and aws training certificates, and also took part in a Java bootcamp.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A lot. I had a career counsellor, buddy, project manager, project supervisor and sub-community (consisting of leaders, who are manager level, and other interns).
There’s so much support and so many people to go to for advice that I struggled to make full use of all of them.
How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?

How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very nice and friendly. Especially on my project, the culture was laid back which was nice.
As the placement was virtual, I didn’t get to experience the in-office culture though.
How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

How would you rate the social opportunities?

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed it a lot. Being open minded helped in making the experience enjoyable.
One thing that is tricky is that it takes about 3 months to really settle into a role. Therefore, it can be difficult to gain experience in many different areas because you’re still learning a lot by the time you consider leaving and your current team is only just starting to give you more responsibility.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Accenture
Be honest and yourself during the application process. They are looking for people who are able and willing to learn.
As the work is project based, don’t spend too much time deciding which role to apply for. It’s not too difficult to try other things once you join.
