Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves working with the Corporate Responsibility team at Fieldfisher to deliver and manage initiatives within pro bono and community, and firm-wide events such as our annual awards. Within pro bono, I manage one of our pro bono programmes that has a volunteer cohort of over 50 solicitors, and provide admin support for other pro bono projects. Within community, I am part of the team leading our Manchester charity partner. This role gives me a lot of responsibility to organise fundraising and volunteering initiatives, as well as engaging many internal and external stakeholders. I also support internal stakeholders with their personal fundraising efforts.
My other responsibilities include ensuring our communications across various platforms are updated and visually appealing. I have daily communication with my line manager and team and visit our London office every few months.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme! I have an excellent relationship with my team and tutor from the apprenticeship provider.
The company culture is very friendly and personable. Social evenings are organised often from work parties, firm way days and interdepartmental social evenings. There is a particular enthusiasm for new joiners to feel and get involved in the festivities.
I enjoy my work as it aligns with my passions, it's varied, and I have the opportunity to speak to different stakeholders. Since my actual work is mainly about pro bono and community, sustainability is nicely covered within my apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. Upon starting my role, we had internal training courses to navigate various platforms and software. I can enrol into various internal training courses year-round if I would like a refresh or learn a new skill/topic. My skill for design is recognised and I've had many opportunities to use this skill and further develop it to a business audience.
Where I have expressed eagerness to build personal skills such as leading meetings and networking, I've had full support from both my manager and my tutor from the apprenticeship provider. They've given me good advice and opportunities to build these skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Yes, the programme quite decently structured. The induction and initial training was very well structured and organised - I had a training timetable sent to me from Fieldfisher before I officially started my job. I also had initial induction from the apprenticeship provider before I officially started my apprenticeship.
Fieldfisher and MBKB were flexible and open to when I wanted to study. I personally chose to dedicate hours across the week but I know other apprentices have a dedicated study day.
In relation to the apprenticeship, I have monthly sessions with my tutor. I know the topics in advance, I appreciate the set pre-reading to prepare me for discussion, but sometimes, the sessions change dates.
At Fieldfisher, I have weekly catch ups with my team to check in on our progress and discuss any outstanding tasks. My team uses Trello to help manage our to-do lists which has been helpful with task delegation, priorities and deadlines.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my manager. I have daily communication with my manager and I can set up ad hoc meetings to discuss any outstanding tasks and issues. I often have a go at tasks such as drafting emails and articles and send to my manager to review. I've found this helpful and a good way to learn. Everyone is always willing and happy to assist and support me with any issues.
The HR team organises catch ups to see how I'm settling into the firm and can steer me in the right direction if I have any HR related questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a good amount of support from my training provider. We have catch ups and I can contact my tutor via Slack or email. The feedback I receive after submissions are helpful for the next tasks and my tutor is always willing and enthusiastic to support me when it comes to technical support, sessions and learning outcomes.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification has a big emphasis on sustainability. This is great for me as my job role entails more pro bono and community. In this way, I'm learning about an important area of my work in the apprenticeship to make up for the lack of responsibilities in this area within my actual job.
I like how if there is an area I'd like to learn more relating to my role, I can approach my tutor who is happy to organise a session beyond the curriculum. This is something I really appreciate as I also have some say in what I learn in the apprenticeship programme.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are! We have office parties, interdepartmental socials, sports and Friday drinks to get involved in. There are also I&D staff networks you can get involved in. People are encouraged to take responsibility and ownership of any events they may want to organise, such as I&D or social events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Fieldfisher LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Fieldfisher is a fun and friendly place to work, and where people with initiative have the ability to take ownership and responsibility. The work life balance is extremely good with a flexibility to work from home and in the office. Particularly in the Manchester office, most people are out of the office by 6pm!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fieldfisher LLP?
Be yourself and authentic! Preparation is key and show real enthusiasm to get involved across different areas of the business. Connect your personal interests to key areas of Fieldfisher such as their legal or community work. I would also say don't hesitate to reach out to people who currently work at Fieldfisher on LinkedIn, the HR team are particularly open to this. Good luck!
