Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
The biggest frustration is that processes are slow at the University. I have been waiting for ethical clearance for a research project for 2 months and still not signed off. This impacts on my ability to manage the deadlines of other modules and apprenticeship evidence.
Feedback has been delayed also from submissions.
I had a very difficult experience with the University around a deferral due to a significant health issue, which was eventually rectified however caused huge amounts of distress at a time where I was in hospital.
After the experience the apprenticeship team at solent contacted me as i had filed for a deferral. They advised they could support in future. I wasn't aware they were able to do so, which is useful information.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
I do not get the 20% by any means, but am able to book out study days here and there when needed.
It would be good to know more about the apprenticeship team. A short 10 min introduction meeting would be great with the team just to find out a bit about them and what they can offer.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
Response time to emails are delayed at times.
I had a terrible experience when submitted for deferral whilst in hospital with poor attitude to the situation and also trying to rectify their error.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
I have put theory into practice when implementing the new MHST working model using change theory to scope around the change before the planning and implementation. This has been successful,
Yes I know more about leadership and management as a result, coming from a clinical background this has really helped to develop these skills required for my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Why?
My experience is that they do offer some meaningful support via the EAP programme, and there is consideration around impact on personal life. overall positive experience with SOlent.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Take you time in interviews, ask for questions to be repeated if needed.
Set aside a day or half a day for interviews so you can prepare and are not rushing and be prepared that assessments days literally are all day!
