Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I manage an administration team of around 30 along with one other colleague. On a day to day basis I am in meetings, supervision, projects involving the work of my team and processes, solving problems within the team and external complaints, mange the referrals coming in and out of the service and generally keep the team running smoothly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I had a rocky start to the apprenticeship as I wasn't getting on with my assessor and things hadn't been explained properly so because of this I was behind on my tasks and was really unhappy with how things were going. However when I changed assessor everything started to make more sense as everything was explained to me but it still did mean I was behind and there was a lot of catching up to do which made it very stressful towards the end. So I wouldn't say I enjoyed the program because of this, but overall I did get a lot from it and I am glad I stuck with it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Within the apprenticeship I feel like I knew a lot of the information from doing my day to day role or through previous training, however I did still pick up a lot of interesting and new skills. Such as coaching techniques and how to deal with certain tricky situations. These have allowed me to implement them into my day to day role and improve my work performance.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I didn't feel the program was very well organised as there was a lot of confusion for me in the beginning, the assessor kept turning up randomly and the support wasn't like I've had before however the EPA was organised well despite the long wait for one part. But I do think the program itself was well structured, once I had been told what to do it was easy to follow along with where you were, what you needed to do and how what % you were at during the session.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received a lot of support from my employer, they have always been very supportive of any training and encourage the team to go for it. I was given as standard half a day study time on which ever day fit around my work diary, but then I was also allowed extra time if and when needed.
I was also able to go to my supervisor, general manager and other members of team for advise, support, proof read my work or to gather their experience.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
At the beginning of my course I didn't feel well support at all as I felt very confused but I was encouraged to get in touch if I had any problems and I did reach out when I needed too. Towards the end of the course the support did get better but I feel this is because I was behind.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I definitely have learnt a lot of new skills from my qualification and have managed to incorporate them into my role.
I feel I am able to manage and communicate with the team more efficiently and I am able to get a lot more from them, work wise and within supervision.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Sussex Partnership Trust have their charity - Heads On. They organise charity events in which the entire trust are able to attend and partake in.
They also have the positive practice awards where members of the trust are able to nominate and be nominated for their work.
Health in Mind do have an admin away day where we get together to do some team building and socialising.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Sussex Partnership trust are a great organisation to work for, especially Health in Mind.
There are plenty of training and development opportunities as well as career progression.
The team are very flexible when it comes to work/ home life balance and are very supportive.
They also have great benefits for working for them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Tips or advice I would give to others would be always read the job description! When applying for a role within the trust, the interviewers always base questions off the job description so it's important to read through it properly.
I'd also advise people to look into the service they are applying for to make sure they have all the information they need before interview.
