Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I'm an apprentice Instrument and control tech at the moment I go around with my mentor on his jobs which he receives. This could be anything from servicing equipment, Installing new equipment, and fixing equipment that is broken or not functioning properly. Alongside this, I complete college work wherever possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying the program I am on currently working away from home for college with everything being paid for then returning to the site for the holidays which is really nice as I break up the college and gives you a chance to apply what you have been learning about. Everyone on site has been really welcoming and have really looked after me when I return

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed and gained many skills while working for Severn Trent. I have learned a lot about electrical components their functions and how to install them and wiring in general from installing to stripping and crimping properly. I've learned a lot about pumps how they work and how they are installed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
When you're on-site it is really structured as you and your mentor will go on the jobs provided unless someone has something which will be better for your learning then you could go with them. My manager is all very understanding if I need to catch up on college work. College is very unorganized with constant changes to the timetables and tutors not turning up. gaps within the course so for example you could have 1-week plc 2-weeks bench 2-weeks plc meaning that you forget what you've been doing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received a lot of support from my employer they have been great to me throughout my apprenticeship so far there is always someone to talk to about any problems you may have. My manager is very understanding about letting me do college work. Severn Trent also provided extra course for you so you never feel like there isnt any progression
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Working for Severn Trent we have our own go-to support person at the college who is very good and will sort out any problems as soon as she can. Someone is always available to talk to 24/7 using the duty phone. Most of the tutors are really good and if you show you want to learn will support you in that.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Most of the content is catered to your employer meaning that most of it is relevant to what you will be doing on-site for example all the electrical units and plc. Somethings you will probably never use again once you have finished at college but you need to show that you are able to work at a certain level for example the BTEC maths.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Severn Trent gives you plenty of opportunities to get involved with extracurricular for example they give you plenty of opportunities to volunteer for river clean-ups which is a great way to meet other colleges. Charity fundraising for example bike rides. Staff Christmas parties for team bonding and better team moral.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There are plenty of opportunities within the company to progress and better yourself for example extra course that Severn Trent provides or sometimes pay for if good for the business. Everyone I have met so far has been really friendly and understanding of being an apprentice. The day is never the same so it's perfect for people like me who enjoy doing differnet things and getting new challeges everyday.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
When applying for Severn Trent I would say to make sure that you have researched about the company and what things we do within especially for the role that you are applying for. An example could be if you are applying to be operator research the water treatment process. The biggest thing I would say is to be yourself.
