Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Weekly I provide the documents for the IT On-Call and have this sent out. I provide the minutes monthly for our IT Security Group meetings. Customers contact me for IT kit which I will provide quotes for, log calls for the kit and order the specialised kit they require.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme I work for. This is due to working with such an amazing and friendly team, which plays a big part in liking my role due to having to communicate every day with other colleagues. Most customers are always friendly, kind and considerate when busy working.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many skills whilst learning my job. The main thing for me is how I have grown and how confident I am. Now that I understand my role and know what is required of me, I can get fully involved with customers to help meet their needs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My organisation is such a big company and can be very demanding. I know that we have to be organised and strict when working - this is due to the NHS being a public sector and having to be careful what we spend the money on and how much.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My team are incredible and I am very grateful for them all. I receive a great amount of support daily, my team are always willing to go out their way to help me and their customers. They were all willing to get involved in the apprentice work that was required from me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have had three different training assessors since being with CT Skill, which I always found slightly difficult as I felt I was having to start all over again - yet I understand it being difficult for the assessor picking up where left off. My latest assessor is brilliant and always makes time for me when I have any queries about work or my EPA.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification helps me as it's opened my eyes into how big the organisation is, what is required from me and what knowledge I should have when performing in my role. It's help improve my current knowledge and prepared me for ehat to expect. This going from appropriate dress code, how to react with customers and what customers there are etc.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are yes. Last year there were several events to get involved in for staff to meet up during work time and outside of work. These included our department going for team walks and picnics. There have also been online quizzes for staff to go involved in. Last year I was asked by our Director to be a judge in the bake off - I happily said yes. This helped me put faces to names of staff members I have not yet met (due to covid).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great organisation to work for and I proud to be a part of it. Although I am not as qualified as a nurse, I can proudly say I do benefit and feel valued when working in IT. I would recommend to a friend as all the staff are lovely and are willing to help you, there are so many different roles that are involved in the NHS.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
I would say to obviously remain profession, but also be yourself. This is because you don't want to give a false impression when applying, but you also show you are serious about your role. I would also recommend to do your research into your job and what is required from the role, as well as demonstrate the skills you will need to perform the role. I would also say to learn the Trust's core values as they are an important factor.
