Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
When I was going through the apprenticeship, I was a Clerical Assistant for a different department and have since moved on to another department after completing it. My current job role entails general administrative support such as minute taking, organising events and meetings, diary management, as well as minor project management and support.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme was difficult and challenging at times but it was a very satisfying feeling completing the apprenticeship, knowing that I did everything I could to produce the best documents from assignments and workshops. The apprenticeship has also helped me progress to my current job role due to covering Project Management which I realised I has some interest in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am currently learning new skills on project management from supporting project managers while also enhancing my other administrative skills such minutes taking and organising events and meetings. During the apprenticeship, a chunk of the module was on Project Management which made me nervous but once I got working on a project and managed it myself, it made me realise that it may be a career path I want to take.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It was tricky to move over to remote learning as I started the programme just as the pandemic hit. Eventually, they were able to provide a much more structured programme using more reliable resources to deliver 1:1s and workshops. As you could expect, there were a few technical difficulties during the remote workshops.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received so much support from my line manager that I know I would not have been able to complete the apprenticeship as quickly as I did and probably not receive a distinction as well. I was allowed time to do my assignments and was also supported on materials and topics that were included in the module.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I had 3 different tutors foe the duration of my apprenticeship because the training provider kept changing them. Every time the tutor got changed, I felt really frustrated because it felt like going back to the beginning having to fill them in on what has already been discussed and done and also there were things that was meant to be done but was not done by the previous tutor. However, the tutor that daw me to the end was extremely supportive and helpful. She was also very responsive unlike the previous tutors I had from the same training provider. Again, I wouldn't have been able to do it without her help and support. the rating of 10 is completely reflective on my experience with my last tutor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
In the new role, part of my job is to support project managers with their projects whether that is for documenting, data collecting, event organising, logistics, etc. I am still in the process of learning it all and I believe I am in the best position to do that, working alongside project Managers who know how projects work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are ad-hoc activities that the Trust organises every now and again and basing it on themes (Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc). They also organise events such as football matches among divisions and bake sales which I think is a good idea for staff engagement and makes the event feel more inclusive.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
From my experience working at the Trust, I have enjoyed the work I do and working with the people I work with. I have been lucky enough to have extremely supportive line managers (both previous and current role) who have been nothing but encouraging with regards to progressing in my career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
The recruitment process can be exhausting especially applying for the job and getting through to shortlisting. It took me so many applications before I got shortlisted for one job , so expect a lot of rejections, more than private organisation. But once you're through, it is worth all the rejections and the waits.
