Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Each day I spend at least 2-3 hours training with our Finance Assistant. This involves either me learning a new task and shadowing her, or being supervised through a task I have previously learnt. This supervision helps me to ensure I am fully confident to complete specific job roles and requirements independently, but I know there's someone there if I do need a little bit of assistance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I love the day to day structure I have. I am now at a position where I understand the tasks and what is expected of me, and I am able to put it all into my day accordingly. I love putting things into practice, and I am quite a visual learner, so I learn more on the job. Completing tasks for the actual job benefits my understanding, whereas I sometimes struggle with the studying aspect with my training provider. However, DHL have offered me so much support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I came into this apprenticeship straight out of sixth form, so have no background knowledge of finance at all. After only being in the role for just over 4 months, I have learnt so many skills relating to the world of finance. Not only this, finance requires me to contact many people on a daily basis, so I have definitely developed my communication skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Within DHL, they are very understanding and supportive of my off the job study and what I need to complete, so the time is there for me to do so. The program itself I do think is very tightly packed in a short space of time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is always support being given left , right and center. Colleagues are always asking if I need extra training hours, if I'm sure I understand my task, and if there is anything they can do to help on my studying side of things - which isn't really something they're obliged to worry about, but they do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The training providers are quick to answer any queries I have, however the most support is when I reach out to them. There is often a lot of miscommunication due to different people picking up emails mid conversation. It is good for independent learners, but for those who require a bit more support it can be challenging and feel like a massive load packed into a short space of time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
It benefits my understanding and the background knowledge I have towards not just my role, but the world of finance as a whole. However, it doesn't really benefit my performance as the roles I complete on a day to day basis do differ to those in the qualification. Definitions and terminology is the same, which gives me an in depth understanding, but the roles differ.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have many challenges going on at DHL, from just your little team you work with, or as broad as the whole of DHL as a company. From walking challenges to fundraisers, there's always something to get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There are such a huge range of opportunities within DHL, as it is such a huge company. You've never reached your limits, the possibilities are endless.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
Be yourself and be confident in yourself. everyone knows how big DHL are, so undoubtedly, there are thousands of applicants each year. As long as you are true to yourself and really believe in yourself, the rest will work itself out for you. It's such a great opportunity that you don't want to miss.
