Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as Senior Nurse Practitioner, seeing patients with minor illness/ injury, assessing, examining, treating, discharging/ referring. I can be in charge of the shift, meaning I deal with any complaints; monitor staffing, breaks and patient load; support colleagues with prescriptions, x-rays or discussing cases; carry out safety checks; liaise with senior management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
It has been unusual to do a course without ever meeting my tutor in person (due to Covid) but virtual workshops and tutor sessions have worked with busy everyday life. I have enjoyed learning new knowledge, which I can apply to my work and support my colleagues with. Although it has been a different way of working, I have enjoyed the challenge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt how to support my team using a well rounded approach, taking into consideration their preferred way of communication/ learning. I have also learnt how to run a project for the review/ improvement of an area/ service.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Very well organised and structure, with work set regularly each month. Momentum is continued but with the option that if you need more time and support it is their. A plan for the course was set from the beginning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I was allocated study days as advised. My manager was happy for me to do the course. If I needed support I knew I could ask for it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Feedback was given on marked coursework. I could ask my tutor questions at regular meetings or e-mail in between, as required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
After consolidation of all areas over the 2 year course I can see how to apply it to the benefit of my team and the service. Making me more confident in my role to approach different situations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Within my work team we have socials out of work, when able, however, Covid reduced this for some time.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
If you wish to work in a certain area, then go for it. You may need to get training and work hard to develop skills and knowledge to get their, but if it's what you want then why not.
