Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an IT project manager. I manage meduim/large It projects. This involves project planning, liaising with clients and other stakeholders, managing a project team, reporting, presenting at client and board meetings and completing financial tasks. I have worked on both software development and IT infrastructure projects for large public sector contracts help by my organisation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My workplace is fun and friendly. My colleagues are welcoming and encouraging. My role is varied and interesting, I get to work with lots of different people from different areas of the clients business and I learn a lot everyday about what these different areas do and how I can best work with them.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have completed Prince 2 foundation, practitioner and agile practitioner and ITIL foundation. I have developed technical skills in the fields of networks infrastructure and software development. I have learned about working with clients and managing interdisciplinary teams. I have also developed presentation, teamworking and leadership skills throughout my career and programme.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The early careers team are excellent at managing anyone on an early careers programme throughout the duration of their programme and beyond. The provide a point of support and can always help with any queries. My training provider are also excellent at providing support and being available to answer queries.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have regular catch ups with my manager to discuss my progress at work and how i am getting on with everything as well as to make sure i'm not overloaded. I also have a mentor who I meet with weekly to discuss development and my studies at university.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider gives me excellent support as I know that I can always contact them and be provided with the tools and information that I need to succeed. They take into account my needs and my work commitments to ensure that I can balance all of my workload and still do well in my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My studies have helped me to be better at my role by giving me a wider understanding of IT principles and helping to ground the skills I have learned on the job in academic best practise. This has made me a better and more rounded IT professional and helped me to progress at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My organisation has put a significant amount of work into a working together scheme to help colleagues come together and take part in events together. The office I work in is located very centrally so it makes it deal for social activities and also for promoting health and wellbeing such as walking at lunchtime.

Why?
CGI's early career programmes are well organised and there is a large amount of support available for those completing them. In addition you will learn a lot in your workplace role and this will set you up to be a competent and well rounded IT professional with a large amount of professional experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
When applying for CGI don't worry if you don't feel like you tick every box, for early careers programmes CGI looks for candidates that show potential in leadership, teamwork and technical skills so feel like you fit perfectly things you have done as school such as group work or organising events can show this potential.
