Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Risk assessment of corporate security and ensuring that there is a governance structure whereby our people, assets and information is protected according to the vulnerability, threat and therefore risk level. Also, threat monitoring of potential risks that could materialise into bigger risks and impact our business. Travel security is also part of the security programme which is ensuring those travelling to higher risk countries have all known risks mitigated.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I like that all the students share their experiences and what their company is like to gain new and different perspectives. We work together as an encouraging team to bring out all of our potential and increase each other's confidence. The tutors are also excellent and encouraging. It goes beyond my expectations, especially for a virtual learning environment due to the pandemic.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, my MBM has helped me to develop my understanding of how our business operates and how strategy, projects, risk, organisational change and leadership are all interlinked. It is very important for a business to operate as a big machine rather than siloed small ones. It has opened my eyes to the bigger picture.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised and structured. We all have easy access to the information, course material, library but also great support from tutors and communication methods with them and our cohorts. I do not feel alone in this, I feel positively supported and confident that if I have a problem, it will be resolved quickly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is very supportive with my studies, there is never a problem with me using my allocated time away from work or occasionally if I require more flexibility in my working schedule it is fine. Also, I am never made to feel guilty, instead I am encouraged to exceed my own expectations and learn as much as I can to progress my career.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My tutor is excellent with appropriate guidance and communicating anything I need to be aware of, he is very knowledgeable and helpful towards my needs. At times where I really feel the pressure, he talks it through with me to break it down into more manageable thoughts and brings back my confidence.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification is helping me to understand the bigger picture within business and providing the opportunity to expand my stakeholder interaction by being able to discuss topics that I wouldn't normally be confident enough to. It has adapted the way I think, speak, and act within projects, workstreams and in meetings.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have many different types of events at my company which are fun but also help us to widen our working network. We have missed this during the pandemic but we do have coffee mornings and quizzes that are great to meet new people and share experiences with than normally evolve into working together in some way.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Pearson is an all rounder. There are so many different types of exciting roles and support to progress and move around into new roles. The company culture is evolving as our digital transformation journey is underway to a company that is supportive of a work life balance and making the most of new opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Pearson is very much a business environment, sometimes due to our learning products people forget that. It is critical that people applying for a role understand that they are stepping into a corporate environment so they need to be adaptable to that. There are occasions where people are shocked that we do not only provide education out of the good of our hearts but we need to generate revenue by using innovation methods to keep us ahead of competition and running as a business
