Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently work in community nursing team providing nursing care for people who are unable to attend the GP surgery's due to housebound status. However do take part in clinics run by the community hospital for patients who are not housebound.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
There has been a lot of confusion throughout the programme with covid-19 and having 2 education providers. There has also been a lot of changes in the staff education teams which has been hard to know where to go to. The work side has been far easier than education.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes I have learnt a variety of new skills since joining. I previously had no clinical experience but now can complete the role of a HCA easily and preform some tasks which are above my current banding level.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is still a fairly new programme but there is quite a lot of room for improvement. Although it is a great opportunity to learn while on the job it has been a lot of mixed messages and delays along the way so far, possibly due to covid-19.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Employment is very supportive. My 'home' team I am placed with are brilliant. They are always willing to help support but also push me to try new things and gain new skills. I feel comfortable to ask anyone in my team for help or guidance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
There has been a lot of miscommunication as we are provided the course by CCN but it is a UEA run apprenticeship. I think it would have been better to have been under one institution. Education have tried to support but has not always been enough.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel that it is good to push you to get your qualification so you are able to do more in your work but feel that sometimes it is forgotten you work full time as well. I feel like it could be more relevant to your day to day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are possibly some activities normally but due to covid-19 I think a lot of these ceased but personally I have never attended anything like that, and do not currently have any plans to in the future.
There are possibly things out there but I hold no interest.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the company but at present I would advise to be wary of the apprenticeship as they can be very stressful and disorganised.
However all the teams I have worked with within the company have been very welcoming and kind.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
I would recommend applying as there are many benefits to the trust but with most healthcare professions there is often a large workload and stresses but the work is very rewarding and you will enjoy feeling a sense of accomplishment and you have successfully helped another.
