Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
1/5
Working in the discharge department of Kettering general hospital, i would be in charge of the discharge cell inbox and handle all patient referrals ingoing and outgoing and keep systems updated with patient records.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoyed the work that i carried out on day to day basis however i feel that more work would be put on me than others in the team and being an apprentice was an excuse for this, for example covering managers on annual leave

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
Stronger in IT packages such as Excel, more confident with speaking to people, learnt i can work in high pressure fast paced environment

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Not very well organised, i would have to ask to study days when i was meant to have one a week i only had about 10 throughout the whole programme. I was relied on too much to cover people which meant i had very little study time
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
Very little support from managers, didnt show interest in the college work, only needed me for their jobs
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My college tutor was very supportive, i would meet with her regularly and explain problems i was having in my role and she would offer advice and solutions and also escalate my problems to her managers to try and help me
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel its helped me understand how a business works and expanded my knowledge on polices within my business and in general
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are activities and groups available however i feel i am too busy to get involved in these in work time

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
No
Why?
I feel i was taken advantage of as an apprentice, i was paid poorly and made to do the most work and if i raised concerns about this i felt my job was threatened. I also had very little study days which i needed and had to fight for this
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Do your research about the NHS aims and values and the different departments within a hospital. Educate yourself on your rights as an employee and keep inline with policies
