Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as Senior Administrator is a varied and complicated one however I enjoy this very much. I supervise a small (growing) team of Administrators that work within two teams as part of the Education and Development Services. I provider administrative support to various projects and programmes that are used to increase and develop our apprentices within our Trust as well as support work experience and careers events for students and staff development overall.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has taken it's toll on my apprenticeship, both from the point of my employer and my training provider, I feel I have continued to do by best during this period and have enjoyed the experience overall. It would have been nicer to continue to meet and work alongside my fellow apprentices on the programme but due to social distancing restrictions this has not been allowed and we have all felt a little isolated.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
This is my first administrative role so much of what I do today I have learned in the last two years since being in post. The skills I have learnt from colleagues in similar roles as well as those provided to me by my undertaking of the apprenticeship are invaluable to my day to day working and I continue to seek development opportunities and expand my knowledge to this effect.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship programme is very well organised with set topics covered each month during our teaching sessions. These are supported by further reading suggestions or tasks that have in turn allowed us to complete aspects of both our apprenticeship standard and the additional diploma alongside it. The running order was changed slightly due to the pandemic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager and my team are very supportive of my apprenticeship but that is not surprising as they are the team that leads on apprenticeships throughout our Trust. My wider team have also been very supportive and have provided me with shadowing opportunities and other aspects of training that have widened my scope of knowledge.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Due to the pandemic the support from my training provider has varied quite a bit. With the loss of tutors and assessors, support has dwindled while these are replaced. Although all the teaching aspects has been completed the 1-2-1 reviews and meetings with my manager have not and only now and I able to work on tasks again although this feels rushed and too much in one go.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The knowledge, skills and behaviours I have gained through my apprenticeship have helped me to developed both in my administrative role and in my role as supervisor. I have increased confidence in my personal abilities and have used this skills to develop the working practices of my team in order to support our employer better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there have been many opportunities for extra-curricular activities at work however these has sadly been put on hold or are presently few and far between due to the pandemic. We are already looking at restarting some of these and being able to move back to face-to-face events as the restrictions begin to be reduced.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked for the NHS for over 10 years and this have continued to allow me to develop professionally and personally. I have held a number of different roles and have had experiences not many others could believe. Throughout the pandemic I have continued to work and support my colleagues who provide care.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Have you considered an apprenticeship with the NHS? Many recruited apprentices start off in a role where they can both learn and earn. Once they complete their apprenticeship you could apply for a permanent position which includes many development opportunities. Our apprenticeships are often the first step on a pathway for a wider career with the NHS.
