Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Since starting at CGI i have been involved with multiple roles. One in a project management team where i was in charge of organising schedules and collecting data. Another in an Agile team where i was contributing to the maintenance of software. I am now part of a cyber team with my own client.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed my time with CGI so far, everyone that I have met has been so welcoming and lovely. One great thing about CGI is that you aren't just treated as "the apprentice", you are given the same tasks and responsibilities as everyone else. CGI is exceeding my expectations so far!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my time with CGI I have grown both my skills and technical skills. I feel more confident when presenting or speaking to groups and my report writing has increased significantly. Furthermore, my skills in coding and using software have also increased due to my daily exposure of them and using them in tasks.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
CGI wise the structure and organisation is good. When you join you are allocated a "buddy" to help you get settled in. There is also a lot of support through the use of training videos. Most of the time you will be expected to study in evenings, but if your project is quiet you may get a few hours in the day to work on some university work each week. If you are unhappy CGI will try their best to accommodate your needs.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a load of support from CGI. Through my buddy i learn about the business and how to do simple tasks such as a time sheet. My mentor helps guide me through the university process and checks i am keeping up with assignments. I have weekly meetings with my manager to see how i am getting on.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Unfortunately Winchester University have not been the best support wise. Although i have joined during Covid times, so this may be a result of the pandemic and doing everything online. Lecturers often take a while to reply to emails and dont offer much support outside of lessons. The university lecturers have given poor feedback on assignments making it hard to know what to improve on.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
On the cyber stream it can feel a lot like university doesn't match up with your role. In my first year i only had one module related to cyber the rest were under software engineering and business. As a result most of what i now know i have learnt from CGI.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
CGI offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities. Throughout the year there will be social events within your team or project, there is also a 'sports and social club' - though i haven't had a chance to attend yet due to Covid19. Within CGI there are different networks (BAME, LGBTQ+, etc.) which you can get involved with as well.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
CGI has already given me such a great and valuable experience. There is so much that CGI have to offer and various projects and industries to be a part of, that you are certain to find something you enjoy. The social environment at CGI is very inclusive and you will be made to feel welcome.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
My biggest tip would be to be yourself and be confident. Look into the company and make sure its where you want to work and to see if you align with our values. Don't be put off if you don't have all A*s, personality can be worth a lot more than grades!
