Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Communicate with external and internal stakeholders, analyse data received through collection portal. Format data into a usable format for stakeholders and highlight any key messages. Assist members of the team with projects and attend staff meetings on behalf of the team when needed, reporting back any important information and updates.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy working within this team as there are plenty of opportunities to grow and develop my skills. Working for this company is enjoyable and we are encouraged to communicate openly and support each other where possible. The opportunity to attend various training courses has been invaluable to my progression and they were very supportive in my application to begin an apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have improved my negotiating skills and confidence in presenting information to a larger audience which has enabled me to take on new projects and tasks within the team. I have learnt how to give useful and thorough feedback, for example to external stakeholders when reviewing a collection process and other colleagues when asked. My microsoft office skills have improved greatly due to being given access to training courses and ability to shadow others doing similar work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
There is an induction process which is detailed and informative, including welcome meetings with team members and other new staff. Training is regularly discussed in monthly meetings and constantly monitored to ensure opportunities to attend are given. During my apprenticeship, I was given plenty of 'protected time' to study and well supported if I needed assistance e.g. when shadowing other colleagues. There is also a clear team hierarchy e.g manager, supervisor, administration, however all team members are treated equally.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have received lots of support from my employer whether it has been whilst doing business as usual work or throughout my apprenticeship. If I have a problem, there are plenty of colleagues in my team I can talk to and feel comfortable discussing issues. HR is clearly signposted on the intranet and are accessible.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
During my apprenticeship, I was given protected time every week to complete any tasks I had been set by my tutor which meant that I wasn't trying to complete work late in the evening or whenever there was a quiet moment. If I needed to complete a particular task for the apprenticeship but it was not part of my current role, my manager organised opportunities for me to work with others who did that particular task.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My apprenticeship with Paragon has greatly helped me in my current role but also given me confidence and ability to apply for higher roles. It has made me think how I could improve in my current role and how other decisions can affect projects in various ways. I have a larger appreciation for the organisation I work for as when researching their values, analysing HR procedures, I appreciated how well everything works and how rewarding it is to work for them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
At HEE, we have lots of clubs which we can join, for example; book clubs, walking/running clubs, organisation away days, team quizzes. I also signed to be a mentor for the social mobility foundation, which supports school leavers in the next step whether it be University, apprenticeships or going straight into the workplace.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend working for Health Education England as they are extremely supportive in developing your skills and encourage development. Staff are friendly and always support others where they can. There is open communication with all levels of management and honesty which is valued and makes you feel part of the organisation and that your opinions matter.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
The application process is simple and self explanatory, the personal statement is your chance to show how you relate to the job specification and why you would be a good fit in the organisation. The interviews generally consist of a face to face interview. The induction process is insightful and integrates you into the organisation. There are plenty of opportunities to progress within Health Education England and chances to develop skills.
