Overall Rating

4.2 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

4/5 - Overview of Role
5/5 - Skills Development
3.8/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I do a mixture of development and customer support, currently splitting my time between two roles.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
It's likely the best opportunity available to young IT professionals - I enjoy the opportunities it provides, though it does leave me without much spare time on occasion. However, I did sign up for that, and knew what I was taking on - overall it's pretty fantastic.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Many! Industry-standard Java and AWS skills, as well as manual testing and writing. Soft skills, too, in the form of speaking, presenting, and carrying myself.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The CGI side of things is as genuine as getting a full-time job in any other company. The Winchester side of things has been fairly dismal, and fraught with all sorts of issues.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Plenty of experience - as much as I could want. From mentoring, peers, and managers, you can ask basically anybody in the company without fear of being shot down. They also check in plenty to ensure you're getting along well and not struggling.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Certainly we're provided teaching and education, but the standard of this cannot be endorsed. We've had all sorts of issues with the university, from poor lecturers, mishandled curriculum, and even a lecturer under false identity; Winchester has it all.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Very well - having the education supporting my work reinforces my knowledge of both, and helps with all elements of the course, understandably.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Usually, though Covid has shut that down (Soon to be restarting!). Normally, though, yes, and is arguably one of the best of the course.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a friendly, open company with many opportunities for growth and development, with offices all over the country, and a great many different sectors to explore and apply for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
Perhaps talk to somebody in the company via LinkedIn - it helps prepare you for your assessment centre and/or interview(s), and makes sure you have somebody you know if you're accepted!
