Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a Consultant Anaesthetist and I also have a Senior Management Role in Medical Education
I work in the operating theatre in a complex team - around Trauma
I also am responsible for up to 700 trainees of various different grades. I have a team of other doctors and administrators who help me with this
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
New material. I am a clinical person and it is good tonow be on a course with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds not just medicine. I know I will enjoy interacting with these people and learning from how they function in their work place. I am also looking forward to learning new skills around leadership

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Not yet as only in the induction phase
I have learnt about leadership styles (Simon Weston discourses)
I have also brushed up skills on time management, academic writing and referencing. A writing exercise at the start of the course was useful to ensure that I was able to interact with the MMU 'moodle platform'

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured
the moodle platform is excellent
The tutors are very engaging and information is sent out on a regular basisi
there is also a WhatsApp group which is responded to very frequently
Excellent structure to the program and very clear deadline and what is expected of the candidates
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is happy for me to participate and to organise my own diary so that I can attend the teacing sessions and fit in the reading and course work. I have a mentor who is a senior clinican and they will attend verious progress meeting with me to support me in the process
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
So far very supportive. Lots of personal emails and feedback as well as feedback in the wider group. I really get the impression that the team at MMU want us all to succeed with the MBA. Very supportive tutors and very approacable with any problems no matter how small they are
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
This will allow me an insight into how business works and also leadership styles. I hope to find out what works best for me so that I can improve my leadership skills and improve how I manage my team. I have had little in the way of formal leadership training so am looking forward to this
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
This is limited at the moment due to COVID-19
We have a regular Team Meeting set up in a cafe style on a Thursday evening if people want to catch up can chat about any issues with the course. At the moment though there are little in the wa of other extra activities

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Excellent place to work. You get to look after patients and make them better. You get to help people and their families when they are most vulnerable. The colleagues you work with are exception and the NHS is agreat team. This has been shown in the recent COVID-19 pandemic that really stretch the NHS to its limit
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
The NHS is a place to come and work if you want to care for people and their families. It is an excellent place to work and develop stills. The hours are long and sometimes anti-social and the pay is not great. However I really enjoy working in such an exceptional team
