I manage a small team responsible for the inputting of flight inventory to provide flights to create holiday packages. I plan and adapt the flying programme for the UK and Nordic business to meet the requires of the commercial business areas and the demands of the customers booking tui holidays
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed the programme as it has allowed me to view areas of the business that i would have not have access to or previously considered exploring for future roles. I have enjoyed working with a dynamic and diverse group of people with multiple views in an open and safe environment

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have develop a better system for planning, the planning process and the balance between 2 internal stakeholders. My self awareness, relationship building, managing of people and time management have all improved due to the nature of the role the timing impacts and the diverse team of people I liaise with

How well organised/structured is your programme?

In the past year (due to covid) i feel the organisation and structure of the programme has been less than previous times. The course I feel is not planned to meet the timelines of the business and the university regularly fall short of these details due to the fixed way they view the learning. We have had changes to learning weeks after the first announcement leading to problems with leave and work commitments, the timelines for assignments are regularly moved due to the lack of workload understanding by lecturers and the information comes very late for details we require.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Personally due to my role and placement in the company I feel well supported. As a manager I plan my time entirely with overview from my director (also my mentor) and with any support I need. The main university/work liaison within the L&D department I have always found to be helpful and willing to communicate any details needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

This can be mixed depending on the individual lecturer and their capabilities of remote teaching. Many are supportive, try to ensure all access and information is available and they are understanding of the work commitments due to their experiences outside of teaching. There have been some case where lecturers do not understand the impact of our working roles and the variation of experience/knowledge which has lead to frustrations and lack of enjoyment of a module.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am in a permanent role rather than rotational roles, so some topics through broaden my overall knowledge of the business do not impact my direct work, i.e e-commerce. The skills we are developing have definitely lead to improvements in my approach when dealing with new contacts, time management and self reflection

Currently during covid no.
Previously I was chair of the commercial smiles board, which was designed to increase engagement of employees across the commercial business area. This consists of running recognition awards, Friday happy hours, team days, charity days and well-being sessions. I was put of the TUI choir for the festive period in 2019 and joined the lunchtime walking club.

Why?
I think the business is a dynamic fast paced business. Staff retention is high and employee engagement is strong. Once employed at TUI there are a range of different areas and roles across many different areas. Flexible working, part time and international opportunities are all available. Employer benefits, pension, share scheme, holiday etc are good
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
Really focus on the output of this business. Yes it has a finance team, events, airline, cruise but the main focus is to provide great holiday experiences. TUI believes everyone in the business has an impact on the family beach holiday not matter how close or far away you work from the customer. Know embrace and enjoy your impact of the final customer and let that drive/balance you thoughts, ideas and decisions
