Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I write tests for software and run the tests on the projects software. This involves updating tests and manual running of tests each day, and submitting reports of bugs found and issues with the test scripts themselves. I also investigate potential issues with scripts and provide potential fixes for them.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy both the work and university parts of my programme. The work allows me to learn and practice new skills which will be useful to me in the future and the university degree teaches me the academic aspects of business and technology and gives me a greater understanding of the business and my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt new skills in testing and improved my writing of reports and documentation. I have also been given the opportunity to study for and take external certifications and have the opportunity to go on training courses to further my knowledge. The longer I am here the more responsibility I am given and the more things I am able to learn for my role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is mostly well structured and easy to understand what is happening. Progression is linear and information is given freely by those in charge of the program. The work itself is well structured and my original training when I joined was thorough and gave me all the information I needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer and can receive support in many areas including extra training and mental health support if required. There is a clear chain of command and people you can go to for support in each project and the support will be provided for you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Lecturers and programme leaders are available to ask questions of and will typically respond very quickly. There are multiple processes in place if you need more support, but some measures do not always apply to apprentices as compared to full time students and there are occasional lapses in communication with apprentices.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Most of the training modules relate to the work I do and the rest give a better understanding of the business and the industry which helps to relate the academics to the real world. Some modules link directly to my role and help me perform better in my role, giving me experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many activities and types of activities available through the sports and social club from theatre trips to wine tasting events. There are also weekly sports events in some places such as climbing you can go to meet people. There are also networking events to meet people from other business units and projects and many social activities. The sports and social club is one of the biggest benefits of CGI.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There are many people who are willing to help with anything you need and you can gain valuable new skills in the industry. There is always something to get involved in and many different projects you can move between within the business so there will always be something new within the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
Be confident in your application and if going through the assessment centre and group activities. Try to get along well with colleagues/potential colleagues and listen to what the people running the assessment centre say. Take notes to be able to go back to key information and do your best.
