Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently in my role I am based at BBC Radio Solent. I work from home and am responsible for the day to day running of our social media. This includes Twitter, Facebook and instagram. I create stories which have featured on air into digital videos for our social media, they are usually 1 - 2 minutes long.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have throughly enjoyed my programme. I am luck enough to have different aspects which I have loved. this includes my time at my station and working on their social media. Time spent at Wolverhampton college studying form my NCTJ and times learning with the academy. including TV, Radio and digital video training.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a lot of new skills through my apprenticeship. I am lucky enough to have worked on Radio and social media and learn other skills through BBC Academy training. I am confident enough to use recording and editing equipment for TV and/or radio and also use cameras to a high standard. I am also confident in writing a story.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I have a lot of support. You have your line manager who is the person in charge of you at work and who you report to. You also have a mentor at work who will be a senior journalist dedicated to helping you. You will also have a buddy at work who is a young member of the team usually an ex-apprentice to show u the ropes. Then you have apprentice mentors, we have two and they cover everything from college to work. Then you have your teachers at college!
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a lot of support from my mentor and team. Even though I currently work at home I have had a lot of contact with those in charge of the apprenticeship and quick responses whenever needed. You have a lot of support from different places such as mentor, manager and college.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
you have a lot of support. When working towards your qualification you have based at a college in a school environment. For me this was Wolverhampton college. The class only consists of other apprentices and the teachers are the best in the business and therefore have a lot of experience.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The NCTJ qualification makes a big difference when working at my station. Media Law. public affairs and essential journalism has made me a more confident journalist and more confident in my own skills. The practical subjects like radio and filming are invaluable skills I will use if im ever lucky enough to work in this environment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
At the moment, there Is not any extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work. This is because of the rules of social distancing and a minimum number of people in the office at any time. I am sure in the future when things return to normal I will be able to.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have learnt invaluable skills and met some great people throughout my time at the bbc. Before joining I was worried that I would not be able to get involved but this is not true. I was able to get a incredible qualification while learning on the job and working with the best.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
It sounds cliche but my top tip would just be, be yourself. Please Don’t try to become a copy of what you think the BBC wants as it won’t get you that far in your application.
They love to have people with different interests and passions. For example, mine was music but I spoke about how my interest in music had made me realise my love for journalism as I was writing blogs and articles about it.
