Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role at Severn Trent as an assistant water network tech apprentice is to carry out regular routine, scheduled or urgent sweeps of a District Metered Area (DMA) to locate and identify leaks. as well as this, I have to raise jobs talk to customers and make sure my area is as close to leak free as humanly possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy this programme to a great extent, it has given me and continues to give me so many opportunities and pathways, knowledge and that sense of 'yeah I want to go to work today' mindsets. Especially in the current climate its been a huge help, relief and something to look forward to each day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Absolutely! so many to even begin to mention in fact, whether that is a personal skill or a work related ones. Personally skills such as customer interaction and confidence has greatly improved due to being out there and doing so on a day to day basis. where as work wise I am learning and developing each day and you never stop learning for example yesterday I learnt the skill of fix on top temp resets.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and run especially due to the current/newly past pandemic we have had to deal with. From college weeks to on the site learning I can't fault the effort and organisation gone into the programme as well as the clear communications we have between our teams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Again, a huge amount of support has gone into this programme for which I am forever grateful for, like I said the communication between all the different sub teams that go Into the programme have been superb really. if I am ever in need of support I feel more then comfortable in asking anyone in the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Given the pandemic, our training providers have also been a real support and help to my apprentiship, everything is crystal clear and simple to understand, like I mentioned any problems I have I feel 100% happy to approach and ask the relevant questions with confidence I will get a sufficient answer back in a timely manner.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Well the answer to this question is right there on site for starters as 6 months ago I could safely say I hadn't got a clue what I was doing on the streets and what exactly I was looking for and why, but now I feel I am pushing on the doors of asking questions like "what if we do this rather then doing this?" this just shows how the qualification really does help for sure.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
currently not really, although I know we have a gym at certain depots and the company runs even nights such as bingo and talent shows occasionally for the whole company to take part in if desired. Although I would love a football team to form that would be great fun!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
Yes
Why?
You get outside more often and your office is literarily the high-street it's pretty cool if you ponder it. Severn Trent has so many benefits to such as a good pension, rewards and shares to invest in. I would recommend others to join even on the community Severn Trent is, I love the Severn Trent family and look forward to seeing them 5 days a week!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
I would say to them to be as open and confident as possible express yourself have no fear of rejection because the bond everyone has here is so tight. I would also say learn a few key targets for the company as well such as the leakage targets and regulations from OFWAT.
