Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Managing projects. For example environmental friendly projects to drive the costs of the operation down and become more lean and profitable. I will manage action plan logs and delegate actions to other people in order to make the project as successful as possible. Sometimes I get given investigations and other things to exercise my people management skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme is great and offers a lot to someone who has just finished school and is looking for somewhere to develop not only your CV but your whole attitude to working. However if you are someone looking to come out with a perfect CV ... THIS apprenticeship is perfect for you too. As an apprentice, at the age of 18, I was thrown in a deep end and the amount of experience I've gotten over the last 3 years is just insane. I've done things that managers at the age of 40 haven't done, all thanks to the apprenticeship team!
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Project management, communicational skills, people skills, organizational skills, life skills. Most of these skills I've learned at DHL have been used in my personal life. The skills I've obtained at DHL would all amount to maturity and growing up, which is one of the most important skills. I feel like after working at DHL, I have a much better attitude and train of thought, and Its helping me focus. I've had to make decisions on the spot and the more I done it the more I developed my ability to make quick decisions and correct decisions
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme offers support from the apprenticeship team. They are a phone call away from supporting you, and if anythings ever wrong, I always know who to contact.
The team is a little bit overworked, but they have done their best to put together a good strong programme and the programme works, the team is amazing and helpful and very supportive. The organization is good, when we first joined we were shown a kind of 'End goal' presentation. Now 3 years later and I can think back to that presentation and it has actually gone to plan, and the organization of the programme has placed me were it promised it would take me!

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from both my line manager and the apprenticeship team. The apprenticeship team is there to offer support and align our day to day roles with the programme, my line manager is there to give me work and help stretch me with different duties. The support I get from my line manager is amazing too. She is so friendly and always there!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider is the open university. The OU offers support and tonnes of materials on their website that I can use to my advantage. The material really answers 90% of any questions or queries we as students may have, but even then, I can speak to my tutor about extensions and they come without problems. Even during the pandemic my tutor has been extremely supportive, and offered help and given me extensions were I was struggling!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I learn about business management and then I'm able to put the skills and theories I learn to use at work. When I first started the role I was in a people management role, so I was able to use my ideologies and stuff I've learned from the OU and put it to effect. Now I've moved away from people management as much and I've stepped up a couple of roles into more of a laptop based role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Professional networking events are extremely common. Social activities sometimes take place (like bowling) but with corona virus nothing can happen at the moment.

Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good support, loads of room to improve develop and advance. DHL is such a big company that you can move to different roles and even other countries. If you can grow and create a reputation for yourself internally then you become more recognised within the business. Your name can ring anywhere. For example if you create a process or system within your unit that can be implemented anywhere, you can be moved to become a project manager for that certain system, and begin implementing it business-wide.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
Be honest, be open. You dont start an apprenticeship with experience. You are meant to be fresh and promising! Show DHL that you are a worthy investment and a future star that can shine internally for DHL, and that you're determined to improve your experience and knowledge around logistics and anything else you're interested in!
