Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in the Oxo centre at Premier foods. My role is to make the granule for either Oxo cubes or gravy. There's a lot of responsibilities in the Oxo tower, such as working on the palamatic, aeromatic, using the forklift truck and using SAP just to name a few.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I'm about 18 months into my apprenticeship scheme, but I'm enjoying what I'm doing, the team I'm working with also the responsibilities which come with the job. Its a small team which I work with. Every day is different, as there are multiple jobs to do. Which I personally find good.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since I started working at Premier foods in 2019 I have learned multiple skills such as, SAP, as well as passing both the counter balance and reach truck courses which are both essential for where I work. Since starting I feel I have also got a lot better using hand tools, as there's a lot of jobs where this is necessary.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel the programme is well organised. From the first week for example we all knew what the layout was going to be like, what the apprenticeship was going to involve and what would be required for the upcoming 2 years. We know exactly who to go for if we needed help also.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The support has been good, we have had meetings with HR discussing any potential issues, and just generally how the apprenticeship is going. If I ever needed help with one of my assignment I know I could go to my mentor or my shift manager for help and they would help the best they can.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Valkyrie have been great so far. My tutor delivers good sessions, helps us the best he can. We have regular one to one meetings where we can ask more direct questions or discuss any potential issues. If we have finished any work and need it marking, he is fast to mark and get back to you via email.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel what were learning through my apprenticeship defiantly helps on the job, its taught me about the whole process from intake to dispatch, also by delivering power point presentations I feel it has defiantly helped me gain confidence. Not only do i have a basic knowledge of where I work, but I do of the whole process.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
If I'm honest, I'm not 100 percent sure if there are. I haven't really explored this avenue yet in my time at Premier foods, so I cant really comment on this subject. However, when I'm not at work I watch a lot of sports, mainly football.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Premier Foods to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Premier foods to a friend. I feel the overall atmosphere is good, the teams we work with are good. The jobs interesting are there's always more to learn. Before I got a job I had Premier foods recommended to me, so I would defiantly recommend it to a friend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Premier Foods?
The advice I would give for people wanting to apply for an apprenticeship at Premier foods would be to concentrate for the two years you're on the course for. Crack on with the written assignments, because after the two years are up, and you pass, you've got a good job with good opportunities.
