Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Provide Basic Admin and clerical support to the community nurses, rehabilitation and therapy services.
Process appropriate referrals on all patient information systems and spreadsheets Working with other local organisations and trusts by taking and receiving calls, taking voicemails and directing patients and other clinician staff to the appropriate team or clinician.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I am enjoying getting the change to learn and experience some topics which I wouldn’t usually be able to learn in my role as a Admin Clerical Officer. Knowing I am learning and developing skills builds confidence in myself to hopefully progress to a higher role within the NHS.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
During this apprenticeship I have gained knowledge on Finance, Managing a Team, managing and developing improvements. These topic are something I would usually not have a chance to learn and contribute in my role. Previously working in hospitality I managed teams but I have developed these skills into the Health and Care sector which I had no experience with in allowing me to transfer some of skills I learnt in previous job roles.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
At the moment with the COVID 19 pandemics, everything is done over Microsoft Teams, I haven’t been able to meet my tutor face to face yet but hopefully in a couple of months I will have the change to show physically what I do in my role. There is a lot of variety in the course so I am not getting bored of the same thing all the time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
From my Line Manager and PPQ I feel I am very well supported in regards to my coursework and everyday job. I am confidence to speak up if anything if bothering me , if I have any issues and queries. I feel my senior management can be more supporting towards us but due to working from home and the covid pandemic things will resume to normal soon.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I have monthly catch up online meetings with my skills coach, I can always email any queries if I feel I am struggling with any assignments or work. Once the restrictions are limited due tot the pandemic I hope to have face to face contact and be able to physically have my observation at my workplace.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I do need to do a lot of extra reading nhs and research with regarding to my assignments. I feel the VLE courses are very basic especially when I am aiming for distraction standard work. I do feel I am gaining more confidence in my role, and hopefully again if this qualification will allow me to move on to more senior jobs within the NHS
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I regularly train at my local women only gym, taking part in Personal Trainer Sessions and follow a personalised training programme.
I enjoy watching Rugby League as a senior ticket holder with my family.
I enjoy socialising with family and friends and travelling hoping to get to America next year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Work as part of the NHS I feel is a very fulfilling job helping patients who are at there most vulnerable and I need of help. Obviously at times it can be very sad but I still enjoy my job knowing we did everything we can for this patient. There are lots of training and development opportunities that are funded in the NHS and a good stable pension for the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
When interviewing be very confident, focus on main aspects like Confidently, how you priories workloads. Read job descriptions and personal specifications and relate to Current job or experience. Read up about the organisation.
Remember at times it can be hard and emotionally but hearing patient stories and feedback is so fulfilling :)
