Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am training to be a chartered accountant and every day I have experience working on some of the largest global companies in the finance sector. Our aim is to provide the best service possible to our clients, through our knowledge of the industry and the skills that we can provide.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy all areas of the programme.
Through being at EY I have not only had incredible experiences on client projects, I have also made some incredible friends and have been involved in other wonderful opportunities.
The programme focuses not only on client work and professional qualifications, but also on making the experience as rounded as possible.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Every day I learn new experiences and skills and I am excited to continue my journey through EY.
Some of the most useful skills that I have learned / developed are: team work, professional skepticism, analytical skills and public speaking.
There are always opportunities to develop new skills which is pivotal to enhance learning development.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
To me, the programme is very well organised and structured.
We are continuously provided with updates and reminders of our deadlines and what is expected of us.
This allows me to set myself clear goals as to what I would like to achieve by when, knowing that in only a matter of years I will have achieved them all, alongside being a qualified chartered accountant.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a significant amount of support from my employer.
Whether it is regarding client work, business development, personal goals or extra-curricular work, there is always someone there to guide you and help you when needed.
This is something that I believe EY does very well and it helps to keep us all motivated.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Kaplan is an exceptional training provider and have kept me on track to completion of my ACA qualification.
I have so far passed all of my exams first time and I know this was partly as a result of all of the help and support that Kaplan provided me during the college and self-study days.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
In my opinion, the qualification enables a greater understanding of why we do what we do on a day to day basis, which helps me put all of my work into context.
It also allows me to have a greater understanding of the other areas of the business, which is key knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are numerous extra-curricular activities to get involved in and it normally comes down to have to pick only the ones that you have time for!
These include: social events, sports clubs, networking events with other professional service firms and also a variety of different diversity and inclusion networks.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I always promote EY to my friends as I believe it is an exceptional company to work for, as the experiences are truly incredible.
I joined as an apprentice, turning down offers from some of the top universities in the world, and I have not regretted my decision once. I hope to be able to encourage others to do the same.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
When applying to EY, my advice would be to make sure that you really prepare for each stage of the process, as this is key to success.
What is also equally as important is to make sure you enjoy it! Use the process to make sure that EY is also right for you!
