Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My day to day role involves supporting the operations management team. This involves working in different aspects of the operation along with supporting recruitment, health and safety, performance etc. I am also involved with project and implementation work set out by DHL and the customer to continually improve the operation and meet targets.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my program as I have ben given responsibility since day one and I am often counted upon to complete important tasks. The opportunity for progression is massive and I am constantly encouraged to explore the business and network to aid my development. Future prospects within the business are very exciting and motivate me to work to my potential.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a variety of new skills since starting the apprenticeship. The main skills I have developed surround people management and organizational/time management. Being involved in the day to day operation allows me to interact with colleagues and learn how to manage different situations. My time management and organizational skills have developed as a result of balancing my university studies with work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My program is structured well, although I take responsibility to allocating time to my studies, which my manager is fully supportive of. I have scheduled university lectures on a weekly basis. The scheme is split into 2 x 2 year placements to allow me to explore and develop within a role before moving into another placement or permanent role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is very supportive of my apprenticeship. Not only do they support the apprenticeship and the vocational development, they are also very supportive to developing individuals to allow them to achieve what they want to. The business has a large amount of interest in developing future leaders of the business and therefore priotirisising and encourages the development of individuals either through apprenticeships or other learning programs.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The business is very aware of the demands of working towards vocational qualifications. To ensure that you progress with these qualifications it may be expected for you to discuss with your line manager what time you need to complete you learning but the business as a whole is very allowing for such time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my degree does have some benefits by learning theoretical knowledge to learn more about the industry. The assignments we complete are a great opportunity to improve report writing skills and the other tasks completed encourage personal development along with group tasks and simulation of real life and difficult situations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Although extra-curricular activities are likely to be organized locally on a site level, the business promotes charity events and networking events. Networking events are included in the program but there are also other forums and events that take place business wide. There are also a range of volunteering opportunities available through the foundation which you are encouraged to consider.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The business's use of emerging talent is very motivating and encouraging for any individual who wishes to take on real responsibility and exciting career prospects. There are plenty of opportunities for people to join the business regardless of previous experience or qualifications and the general feeling of the business is very warming and positive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
My advice to anyone applying to DHL is to first and foremost be yourself. The business wants to see an individuals unique skills and capabilities. Spend some time researching the part of the business you are joining and think about your motivations for working for DHL. Also look at the business' goals and ways of working and how they relate to yourself.
