Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a first line manager on the box picking department. This mean I am the manager for a group of around 20 people. On a daily basis, I monitor the pick to ensure that we meet required targets and complete performance reviews with members of the team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme, everybody I have met are keen to help you develop. I am learning so much during my time at work and also from my university course as well. I am so glad I chose this route as opposed to regular university.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a vast range of new skills. My communication skills have improved significantly but I have also learnt time management, computer skills and have become much more confident with leading projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is organised very well. 20% of my paid working hours are to be spent on univeristy. I have online lectures every Friday so I take this day from home each week to dedicate to study. We have two placements over the two years which are also well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is plenty of support available. You are allocated buddies and mentors when you first begin which makes the process much easier.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Aston University are incredible, there is always support available from many different people as and when it is needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My course is very relevant to my role. At the beginning of the academic year, the module was based around workplace skills which really helped us all to settle in, in our job roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Covid-19 has limited the opportunities for this, but we do have virtual emerging talent events and more relaxed sessions to allow us to get to know one another.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
Stay as calm and relaxed as possible through the interview process, everyone is friendly and really not there to trick you! Make sure you do your research about the specific part of DHL you are applying for as it is so large.
