Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Dealing with business who are facing financial difficulty - at times of insolvency, dealing with creditors, making payments from the company account to pay off creditors, working with other departments and employees from various sites across the country when required to help out if necessary. I have been attending various training events as well as a mix of online learning and courses to gain the skills required and learn more about my job role and various jobs i will be given.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme I am currently on differs on a daily basis and there are ample opportunities to help out in other areas, after just starting with the company I was helping out at apprentice workshops and various school leaver programmes. The business is very accommodating which is very beneficial to someone in my situation, daily work differs daily and can be working on more than one project at the same time which i find quite enjoyable.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The new skills which I am learning whist on this programme is gaining a deeper understanding of excel and the tools that can be used on a daily basis when working with accounts, learning the Law and how it can differ between Scotland and England for businesses, the way in which letters and emails have to be correctly written and also how to write letters to creditors for reports as well as other software and data analysis programmes.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is organised so that you are working on the job whilst also being able to study for your ICAS exams for the CA qualification, the benefit of this is that you learn on the job which assists you with the exams however communication is not always clear with when things have to be completed. I think that generally the programme has quite a good structure however there are definitely areas that could be improved.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

From my employer I have generally received good support and the team I work with continue to reach out and ensure that I am getting on fine with the work that I have been given and I am encouraged to ask questions and I have also got people who I can reach out to if I need more work to complete such as different employees and also some other managers in the departments that i report to.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support I have received has been good whilst at work and one of the first things I was told when I started was that my exams were important and so if I felt that it was getting a bit much or if I needed more time of for studying I just had to communicate it with my team, my team are also good at catching up with me to as how I am getting on with everything
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification that I am sitting is extremely important to my job role and this helps me perform an understand tasks better, this is also a requirement for the role which I am doing and in order to be an Accountant you need to have a CA qualification which is what the programme is helping you achieve. I am fairly confident in the qualifications that i am going to achieve that they will definitely help me with my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are plenty of extra curricular opportunities for people to get involved in at work. There are various networks which people are encouraged to join if it is something that they are passionate about, they also try to catch up with the team that you are working with on a regular basis. I've found that these days out are really fun and i like to get to know my colleagues a lot more and become friends as well.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If being an Accountant is something that you want to be then this is the role for you. The benefit of this is that you do not have to go to University however you will come out with the same qualification as someone who did go to University however you will do it in less time and also with less debt and student loans to pay off! I have found this job really interesting and i would definitely say to look into applying to EY.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
For applying I would make sure that you know the role that you are applying for, there are plenty of quizzes online to see which role may suit you best so i would definitely say to try a few of those out. They also do not expect you to know everything, it is more about the way in which you present yourself to them and how to show that you can be committed and dedicated to the company.
