Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Digital Marketing apprentice who works within the Digital Learning and Digital Network Drama teams - design graphics, edit videos, create and produce digital content, publish content on and manage official BBC social accounts etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as a result of the work I am producing for Drama and Bitesize. The team's are accommodating and I am available to reach out to them if I need support. I've been able to work on things that I never would have expected to be able to during my apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed graphic design and editing skills using software such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Developed an understanding of BBC's editorial guidelines when creating and publishing content. Stronger interpersonal and communication skills. Learnt how to use BBC internal tools and sites such as iSite, iBroadcast and Storyformer. How to film and light videos such as interviews and how to work with talent.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well structured - I am clear who my point of contacts are and they're hierarchy within a team and the BBC. My managers and line managers are always on hand for support and if they are not I know who else I can contact for support. We have one to one catch-ups consistently to review progress and for me to vocalise my thoughts, ideas and interests moving forward. Task delegation is clear.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Managers and mentors are always on hand for support and are very encouraging for me to speak with them if I am in need of support. HR team are helpful and easily accessible for support. Internal emails are helpful to highlight where/how I can access support or who to contact if I have any problems etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have received a lot of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. They are very understanding of the work that I am doing and are able to work around my work commitments in order for me to complete work for my qualifications. They are always available to talk if I am in need of support and are able to help me manage and organise my workflow with them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
From doing the work through my raining provider I have deepened my understanding of the industry and of my job role within the industry. Key skills such as how to write a CV specific to this industry, networking and how to present myself in the workplace to further my career are things that have helped me consistently in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have attended company events such as screenings for new dramas and social events with my teams. I have attended BBC Embrace and BBC Pride talks over Zoom.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the BBC to a friend as I think within the BBC there are always people available for you to talk to if you ever need support of any kind or advice. I believe the BBC and your teams within the BBC always try and help you to realise your potential and are very encouraging to try and discover new things to help you in any way they can.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Not to be discouraged by the application process, especially the video interviews as you are able to film more than one take although this isn't clear initially. At the interviews and assessment day make sure your personality and enthusiasm is evident. Be aware that you can move around within your department and that there are so many opportunities available within the BBC so everyone's apprenticeship experience will be different.
