Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes calling contributors, editing audio packages, making sure all content is ready for broadcast. I refer to everyone on the team that I am working with at the time, from Assistant Producers to Producers and Editors. It is a very sociable role, and relies on good communication and organisation. I've met lots of the musicians and public figures I love, and get to research content that I'm passionate about.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The training on the programme is brilliant, really thorough, and led by a passionate, knowledgeable team. I've learnt so much, and feel really confident about heading in to work at the end of the apprenticeship. The culture of the team I was in to begin with, was friendly and welcoming, and I feel like there are lots of people around me who want to help me acquire the skills I hope to have by the end.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I've learnt loads of technical skills, which is exactly why I wanted to do the scheme.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The organisation of the program could do with some improvement in a couple of areas. The induction was really exciting, and the training trips well organised. In regards to the mentoring scheme, my mentor said hello at the beginning, and then dropped off very quickly. It could be a really important relationship, particularly for those of us unused to big corporations. The plan for my particular placement has been a little hazy, and I have been unsure whether to organise things myself or let those in charge organise my movements for me.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Excepting the mentor scheme, the employer has been really supportive for my particular needs. The company has a great ethos in regards to mental health, but doesn't at times understand the full context of all their staff; bringing in apprentices from diverse backgrounds demands a different approach that I feel the company still has some way to go to understand.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We get lots of support from our tutors/advisors, with regular check-ins, and lots of advice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
What we're learning on the course has been enormously helpful for all the technical tasks I have been asked to do.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, lots!
