Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Every day varies which really keeps the placement interesting. Usually we spend time developing recipes, conducting Costings for our projects, factory trials and product launches. I would typically spend time conducting life tests and producing samples for internal and external stakeholders.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

As soon as you start you are seen as a normal member of the team and will be assigned real life projects. Any contributions that are project specific are taken seriously and everyone validates your opinion. You do have a lot of responsibility, however you have the support of your mentor, manager and everyone on the team and they recognise that you are still a student.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt so much about the NPD process and food manufacturing. i have gained so many skills around recipe development, communication skills, factory trials. My commercial awareness has grown considerably so have my analytical skills.

I received a considerable amount of support and guidance from everyone I worked with. Everyone wants you to succeed.

The company culture is good, and has a positive atmosphere. Management act fairly and ensure that we are all happy and enjoy coming to work

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my time at premier foods and have taken away so much from the placement year. I had some ups and downs, however, i discussed these with my manager and mentor who where really supportive. The past 12 months have really set me up well for a career in R&D. Thank you Premier!
