Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role involves preparing consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. On a day-to-day basis, i analyse financial data, review journal entries and work with different departments to gather information.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, i was given a good amount of responsibility. I was tasked with assisting in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, which involved analysing intercompany transactions and reconciling balance sheet accounts. This helped me develop my understanding of consolidation processes and showed me the importance of accuracy in financial reporting.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I've learnt advanced consolidation techniques and expertise in financial reporting systems like Hyperion. It has also helped sharpen my analytical, problem-solving and communication skills as i work with various teams and tackle complex accounting issues. I developed project management skills by coordinating reporting timelines, enhanced my attention to detail by ensuring accuracy in financial statements, and improved my ability to work under pressure during month-end and year-end closings.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a great deal of support and guidance. My manager was always available to answer any questions I had and provided regular feedback on my work. I also had the opportunity to shadow senior team members, which gave me valuable insights into best practices. My entire team was very collaborative and I felt comfortable asking for help whenever I needed it.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at Hilton was very supportive. I found the general atmosphere to be team-oriented and welcoming. Everyone was very approachable and helpful which made it a great place to learn and contribute.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Hilton. It was a fantastic opportunity to apply what i had learned in my studies to real world scenarios. I particularly appreciated the supportive team environment and the chance to work on meaningful projects that contributed to the company's financial reporting processes. The experience solidified my interest in pursuing a career in accounting and provided me with valuable skills and knowledge that i will carry forward.

I would advise on brushing up on technical skills related to the role such as Excel and financial accounting principles. I would also encourage them to highlight their enthusiasm for learning and their ability to work well in a team setting, as these are highly valued.
