Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role during my placement is primarily to aid and assist on a number of projects including infrastructure based and project management roles. For project management I assist by taking notes in meetings, keeping an eye on tasks and progression within the projects. With the Infrastructure team I aid in drawing designs for pipelines and creating documents realted to these, including HASPs and PCI checklists.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given responsibility in different projects in a variation of ways. In some projects I was given the responsibility of controlling certain documents of correspondence between the team(s). Whilst other projects (smaller/ no teams) gave me specific tasks of completing a project design under supervision.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have increased my skills in CAD software, as well as BIM (ACC) software within projects. Working in teams ahs also aided me to improve communication and teamwork.

I have received a good amount of guidance and feedback within the projects I've worked on during my placement. I am always able to seek guidance from a number of individuals with different levels and areas of expertise, enabling me to diversify the feedback I receive.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The atmosphere within the office (despite being a smaller and quieter office) exceeds the expectations I had of working within an office.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have greatly enjoyed my placement with Arcadis, from the opportunities given to me, to the sociality of everyone here. I believe my time here will aid me in the future roles I take.
