Industrial Insurance Claims Placement Review

On a day-to-day basis, my role involves speaking to a vast array of individuals, including our customers, insurance companies, our branches and sometimes the police. The purpose of my current team is to examine incidences of damage, which involves investigating claims and making important decisions.

Yes. You are given more responsibility over time, but even from the get-go you are accountable for high value claims and speaking with customers about important issues.

The biggest skill you enhance is communication, as you are regularly speaking with people on the phone and writing emails. As well, the role forces you to develop good time management so that you are managing your workload effectively.

You are mainly expected to work on your own and learn on the job. However, there are countless materials available which talk you through certain processes and scenarios. As well, the people in the team always offer support if you need it, and you obviously get initial training and the chance to shadow others.

I worked in the office, and the people were great. Everyone is very friendly and there to help each other.

I have learnt so much on my placement, which was the primary reason for me doing one in the first place. I have also had loads of opportunities to do things besides my main duties, like presentations and charity initiatives. The role can be stressful, but if you like a fast paced environment it shouldn't be a problem.
