Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
This role involves leading trained sensory panel sessions, including briefing the panel on current projects, preparing samples, and delivering training. It also includes designing and delivering training sessions, analysing sensory data, writing reports, contributing to improvements in ways of working, and participating in wider team activities such as HACCP meetings and social team events. Tue- Fri 9am-12pm with panel and have Monday and the afternoons free for meetings and report writing.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
During my placement, I was entrusted with a high level of responsibility, independently running panel sessions for extended periods while my manager was away. This experience strengthened my ability to work autonomously, maintain high standards, and ensure the smooth running of projects without direct supervision.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Over time, I have developed greater confidence in my leadership abilities, particularly in guiding and supporting the sensory panel through a variety of projects and training sessions. I have also enhanced my creativity, finding new and effective ways to present information and engage the panel. In addition, my technical skills, especially in Excel, have significantly improved, allowing me to analyse data more efficiently, create dynamic spreadsheets, and contribute to more streamlined ways of working.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Although I worked independently, I always had support available if needed. I could reach out to my manager, line manager, or mentor for guidance, and my team members were always nearby to offer assistance with running panel sessions when required.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The workplace culture and atmosphere were consistently friendly, with a balance of energy. At times, the environment could be bubbly and fun, while at other moments, it would be calm and focused as team members immersed themselves in their work. There are usually a lot of people who work from home so there are less chances for social interactions in the workplace.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and hope that the impression I’ve made will be strong enough to allow me the opportunity to re-join the company after graduation. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to explore my skills and be creative.
