Consulting Intern Review

As a management consulting intern, my role involved supporting senior members of the project in analyzing business challenges, gathering data, and developing strategic solutions. Day-to-day tasks included conducting project management office skills, compiling and analyzing financial data, preparing presentations, and assisting in client meetings. Platforms I would use consistently on a day-to-day basis would be PowerPoint and Excel. The role required strong analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

During my placement, I was entrusted with more responsibilities than anticipated. Being frequently positioned in front of clients afforded me the opportunity to acquire substantial experience in client engagement and presentation skills. I earned trust to conduct and spearhead comprehensive analyses, showcasing my burgeoning proficiency in data interpretation and problem resolution. Moreover, I was significantly involved in crafting PowerPoint presentations, utilized in both client engagements and internal deliberations, which augmented my capabilities in visual communication and narrative construction.

Throughout my placement, I have significantly advanced both my professional and personal skills. Technically, my proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel has improved tremendously; I can now perform detailed analyses using Excel. My year in consulting has also refined my communication skills, teaching me the art of storytelling to engage audiences during presentations and to interact succinctly and effectively with stakeholders. Moreover, I have sharpened my problem-solving skills and enhanced my ability to manage time by handling various tasks and meeting numerous deadlines.

I received substantial support and guidance throughout my placement. The buddy system paired me with an experienced analyst who provided valuable insights and advice throughout my internship. I also had a 'people lead' to chat with regularly, offering personalized mentorship and addressing any concerns. The company's culture of coffee chats facilitated open communication and networking, allowing me to seek guidance from various colleagues in an informal setting, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment

The company culture and general atmosphere were incredibly welcoming and supportive. I was pleasantly surprised by the people-oriented ethos, where everyone, regardless of seniority, was approachable and willing to provide time for feedback or casual chats. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would highly recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in consulting.
