Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Lots of design work using AutoCAD applications (mainly Civil3D). Keeping on top of emails and teams messages from my team and the client.
The jobs I have worked have ranged from being at concept stage where you are given a problem and you have to come up with a feasible solution, to designing pipelines which are already getting built.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

To start with I was given little responsibility but it has gradually increased as I have built my knowledge and skills. I still don't have lots of responsibility now but if I was to continue I know the responsibility would continue to grow.

I had lots of support, everyone in my office was always happy to help and guide me with work, or point me towards someone who could help. They have made me feel part of the team straight away and a valued member of the office.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The office can be very quite as most people work from home, but when lots of people are in the atmosphere is great, and people feel more like friends rather than just colleagues. I have been included in any socials outside of work and was welcomed into the team straight away. Arcadis encourage a good work/life balance, which makes the job more enjoyable.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement across the year and I have learnt a lot about engineering and work culture. I have been offered to come back and continue to work in my team so I can continue to develop my skills and knowledge, and hopefully get more responsibility within the company.

What advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis

Understand that majority of people in Arcadis work remotely, which can be hard to adjust too but pushing to talk to as many people as you can while in the office can help gain experience and gives you more people to turn too when you need help.
