Trainee Project Manager Review

Assisting project management functions on two projects. Every day was different. Some days were spent in the office working on spreadsheets and writing reports, while others were spent at client sites and client meetings taking notes. I learned a lot from daily interaction with senior project management team members and clients. Meetings were interesting and I had the opportunity to take responsibility for some elements of the projects. The initial formal training was good.

I was given the opportunity to work on important tasks and was able to contribute towards client facing products. This was very rewarding, a great confidence boost, and taught me valuable technical and soft skills.

Skills I have learned and developed on this placement include, but are not limited to, active listening, spreadsheet creation and maintenance, time management, team working, minute taking, project monitoring, professional networking, work/life balance, confidence, and report writing.

I received significant support from my line manager and project team members. I was given the freedom to get on with work when I didn't need support, and everyone I worked with let me know I could turn to them for guidance if needed. The atmosphere was very collaborative and reassuring.

The culture at Arcadis was collaborative, flexible, and open-minded. I never felt like I was abandoned with a task; I always knew the support of my line manager or team was there if needed. While having deadlines, I had the flexibility to manage my own time around commitments from other projects and personal life commitments. The office was nice and had a relaxed atmosphere.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Arcadis and can recommend their internship. The most satisfying part for me was having the opportunity to contribute directly to an important client facing product and see this presented to the client.
