Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Structural Analysis and Design: You would be involved in analysing and designing structures, such as bridges, viaducts, or other transportation-related infrastructure, based on the project requirements and relevant design codes. This may include performing structural calculations, considering different load conditions, and ensuring the structures meet safety and performance criteria.
Bridge Design and Evaluation: You would contribute to the design and evaluation of bridges, including the selection of appropriate materials, design of superstructures and substructures, and conducting inspections and assessments of existing bridges.
Technical Drawings and Documentation: You may be responsible for preparing technical drawings, plans, and specifications, using software tools such as AutoCAD or Revit. Additionally, you would contribute to the development of project documentation, including reports, design memos, and technical specifications.
Collaboration and Coordination: As part of a multidisciplinary team, you would collaborate with other engineers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure the integration of structural and bridge elements within the overall project. This includes coordinating with other disciplines, such as geotechnical engineers, hydraulic engineers, and transportation planners.
Site Visits and Inspections: You might have the opportunity to visit project sites to gather information, monitor construction progress, and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
Research and Innovation: As a student engineer, you may also be involved in researching innovative engineering solutions, exploring new materials or construction techniques, and staying up to date with industry advancements and best practices.
