Ecology Summer Intern Review

On a day to day I will either be working online writing scientific reports, reviewing camera footage of animals, inputting survey data, creating presentations for clients or on site surveying otters/badgers/water-voles/plants/botany etc

I was given a lot of responsibility.
I was tasked to create presentations for clients,
I was given freedom in the field to develop my surveying skills and ensure I stay on task.
A lot of the responsibility came from the fact that if i got it wrong it would affect a million different people in different ways for different reasons. This being said i was always checked on my work and had a safety net around me to ensure that i felt comfortable with the task i was assigned, there was a lot of room for personal growth

I've developed my botany identification skills.
I've learned about how to conduct a phase one survey
I've learned how to write a professional scientific report
I've developed my knowledge on the ecological scope of work

I had conversations with a lot of different people and a lot of different advice was given. I was given a lot of guidance as to how to move through further Arcadis schemes and what looks good on a CV and what doesn't. Arcadis has really helped me progress my career

Its a very people first company, there is always a really prominent support network around you. I like the fact everyone is very approachable, if I felt I was overworked or even underworked I could communicate this and it was dealt with promptly and without question. There was a friendly community in the team I was in and I feel that I've made some connections that in the future I may overlap with again

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Arcadis. I have been stretched and challenged in a good way. I feel that this placement has really progressed my career and I feel extremely grateful for the opportunities it has provided.
