Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The week involved various presentations from departments and across the firm, the opportunity for pro bono work, social events, networking opportunities, and departmental work. I was also invited to attend meetings with my department. There were also a few assessed tasks, including a group task. In addition, we had daily catch-ups with the Graduate Recruitment Team, who were always on hand for any issues.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was fantastic to learn about the different teams within Taylor Wessing's business and how they interact. We attended talks from across the firm from a variety of staff. The in-house knowledge and information centre and innovation teams were particular highlights. After meeting such a variety of staff, including the managing partner, I truly felt I had a better understanding of Taylor Wessing and its place in the market.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed my networking skills when meeting lawyers of all levels of seniority across the firm. I also developed my communication skills when creating social media content, meeting with my department, meeting my supervisor and planning group tasks. I also had an innovation skills session which completely changed my mindset on what it means to be innovative. Overall, it was an action-packed week, and I learned so much as a result!

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone I met at Taylor Wessing was warm, friendly and willing to help. Taylor Wessing's core value of 'Team' is definitely something that is championed at the firm. I found that all lawyers were very approachable. There were also social events, Company-wide events on diversity and inclusion and pro bono work. Overall, it was clear Taylor Wessing care about having a positive impact on their surrounding community.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I absolutely loved the insight. I felt as though I was totally supported during my vacation scheme. The company culture exceeded my expectations, and my team were absolutely fantastic in supporting me during my work. I did not realise the level of insight I would receive into Taylor Wessing and commercial law. I know this experience will serve me very well in my future commercial law career.

First of all, I would advise you to be yourself. There are many commercial law firms out there, and it is about finding the right fit between you and the firm. Research Taylor Wessing's values and check if these align with your own views.
