Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I am a trainee product tech interning for 12 months. This involves speaking to suppliers regularly, having fit sessions to check the product on a model and checking product that has arrived in store.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
At the beginning I was trusted to carry out my own floor walks and identify any issues I found and report this back to the team and the supplier. Once I found my feet I was left to get on with my day which I liked, I could reply to fit comments and suppliers without guidance and was trusted to fit product in the fit sessions

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I had some pattern cutting skills before joining and this has helped me to develop my technical language and understand the process of putting together a garments, which makes it easier during fit sessions to understand the issues. I have also had to learn to be really clear when making comments to suppliers to ensure they fully understand what we're asking

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had a lot of support throughout the entire placement, from the Early Careers team and from my immediate team. The Early Careers team were amazing and helped us set everything up after moving countries like bank accounts and PPSN numbers. We received a lot of training to help us get started in the business as well.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere around the office is amazing, there's always a buzz and everyone is so helpful. When they hold events everyone gets involved and it's such a nice atmosphere to have everyone in the business together having fun

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I had the best time on placement, I learnt so many new skills and it was great to experience the workplace. My team were great and I felt really included, they helped me learn so much and I'm definitely coming out of this a better person

What advice would you give to others applying to Primark
Be yourself, during the interview stage they just want to get to know you. Show passions for the job, be chatty and don't play up to the part - they only want to know if you're right for the job. The office has such a buzz so if you fit in and like getting involved in social events you'll be fine!
