Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Developing asset management proficiency.
Gaining skills to produce detailed inspection reports for bridges using Bridge Station software.
Creating precise defect location plans using AutoCAD software.
Conducting thorough on-site inspections of bridges.
Identifying potential issues and ensuring the safety and integrity of the structure.
Assisting in creating and testing standardized templates for PIMS in various bridge design scenarios.
Attending training sessions or workshops to gain hands-on experience using the software tools.
Collaborating with experienced professionals in the industry to gain insights on how they use OTL and PIMS in their work.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. I have been given tasks that needs completing in a specific amount of time, which would then be submitted to the client.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes.
I have learnt Grasshopper, Excel, Powerpoint, OTL, Revit, Autocad.
I have also managed to gain and improve soft skills such as time management, problem solving and team work.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Everyone was really friendly, approachable, and is really happy to help me out if I need help. My line manager would also do a frequent catch up session with me.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone was really friendly and approachable. I did not feel that I do not belong, especially as I am still a student.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Everyday was exciting, with different tasks to do and new learnings. I really enjoyed it and would want to come back as a graduate engineer if given the opportunity to do so.
