Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
A lot of online training and then shadowing different people on the project to understand what they do and how they do it. Working in a close knit team with a range of levels of experience. As well as working on a Early Careers project which joins together other graduates and placement students to learn how it is running a project for a client start to finish.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
No as it was a lot of shadowing or self led online training within my day to day team, however with my Early careers project a group of 6 of us are running that with regular deadlines of presentations etc so that has given me responsibility but that was only weekly.

I've learnt Professionalism, Team Work and Presentation skills. I've also learnt to work with different software. But not much technically really.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was given personal support but for guidance for what to actually do from day to day I was left to my own devices really, and when asking what to do normally people were too busy to help.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture socially is great they have various events to meet up and socialise and the general team was a great community and all got on really well.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed meeting the people I worked with and we got on really well. However I feel like my year wasn't planned out and was just constantly not having anything to do and be involved in other than random online training to keep me busy. I found this frustrating as I don't think I gained as much as I could have.

Would you recommend CGI to a friend?

What advice would you give to others applying to CGI
Make sure you ask what specifically you're going to be doing and think about whether you're going to be happy with that. Also always push for what you want as managers can be very busy and they can forget about you sometimes.
