Queens Park Rangers FC are seeking a motivated and talented Software Developer Apprentice to join the team. This role will be located at Matrade Loftus Road Stadium and the TSG Elite Performance Centre Training Ground (“TG”).

About the role

This is a 16-month Level 3 apprenticeship delivered in partnership with QA, one of the UK’s leading technology training providers. The successful candidate will work towards the Level 3 Junior Developer qualification, gaining hands-on coding experience across the full software development lifecycle. As part of the Data Operations team, the apprentice will assist in building and maintaining the Club’s digital tools and internal applications, supporting football and non-football staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of software applications and internal tools
  • Write clean, well-documented code across languages including Python, Java/C#, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Support the Data Ops team in managing version control, code reviews, and collaborative development using Git and GitHub
  • Contribute to Agile sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives as part of the development team
  • Assist in database management tasks, including writing and optimising SQL queries
  • Help maintain and improve existing web-based systems and internal applications
  • Participate in cloud development and deployment tasks using industry-standard tools and platforms
  • Document development processes, code, and procedures for future reference
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures. Adhere to all company regulations regarding policies, procedures, health, safety and security

Required skills

  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and honest
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts and/or computer hardware and software
  • Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows and/or macOS
  • Logical thinking and strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and a self-motivated approach to development

Additionally, the following experience would be beneficial:

  • Experience with any programming language (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Java, C#)
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and basic web development
  • Understanding of SQL or database concepts
  • Awareness of version control systems such as Git
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure) or cloud concepts
  • Knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologies
  • Any database-related personal projects, coursework, or self-study
  • Demonstrable interest in software development through personal projects, coursework, internships, or self-study would be deemed essential

Entry requirements

  • 7 GCSEs total
  • English GCSE grade D (3) or above
  • Other 6 GCSEs, including Maths, to be C (4) or above
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.
  • If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications. For more information please visit the UK ENIC website.
