Overview:

Legal Officers in Army Legal Services provide legal advice and support across every part of The Army. You’ll work on a wide range of matters, from operational law and international law to employment issues, contracts and military justice, helping commanders make informed decisions in complex situations.

You’ll be trusted to give clear, balanced advice, often under pressure, and work closely with soldiers and officers at all levels. It’s a role that suits confident, ethical and resilient legal professionals who want to use their expertise in a unique environment, while developing leadership and decision‑making skills that go beyond civilian practice.

Qualifications required:

To join as a Legal Officer, you must be a fully qualified lawyer, meeting one of the following:

• A qualified solicitor in England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland
• A qualified barrister (or advocate) entitled to practise in the UK

You’ll also need post‑qualification legal experience, typically a minimum of two years, and the ability to meet Army officer entry and medical standards.
