Dentist Graduate - Army Medical Services
Overview:
Dentists in the Army Medical Services provide essential dental care to soldiers and their families, helping keep the Army healthy and operational. You’ll work in well‑equipped military dental centres in the UK and overseas, delivering everything from routine care to more complex treatments in a supportive team environment.
You’ll practise dentistry while also developing leadership skills as a commissioned officer, working alongside other healthcare professionals. It’s a role that suits confident, patient‑focused dentists who want variety, responsibility and the opportunity to use their skills in a unique and rewarding setting.
Qualifications required
To join as a Dentist, you must:
- Hold a dental degree recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC)
- Be fully registered with the GDC
- Meet Army officer entry standards, including medical and fitness requirements
Dentists can join at different stages of their career, with opportunities to develop further skills and experience while serving.
Student Bursary (Up to £75,000): Student bursaries are open to dental students graduating with an Army‑endorsed dental degree who plan to join the Royal Army Medical Service as a Dentist for a minimum of four years.
You’ll receive £10,000 per year, paid in annual instalments during your final three years at university, helping to support you while you study. After successfully completing Officer training, you’ll also receive a lump sum payment of £45,000.
During your one‑year Foundation Training, you’ll be paid a full Army salary, giving you financial stability as you begin your career as an Army dentist.
