Overview:

Chaplains in the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department provide pastoral care, spiritual support and guidance to soldiers and their families, wherever The Army serves. You’ll walk alongside people in times of challenge, celebration and loss, offering a listening ear, reassurance and moral support, regardless of their faith or beliefs.

You’ll be embedded within Army units, sharing life on operations and exercises, and supporting wellbeing in demanding environments. It’s a role that suits compassionate, resilient leaders who are comfortable supporting others under pressure and want to serve in a role that puts people first.

Qualifications required:

To join as a Chaplain, you must:

• Be an ordained minister, priest, rabbi, imam or faith leader recognised by one of the UK’s approved faith authorities
• Have the formal endorsement of your faith body to serve as a military chaplain
• Normally have at least three years’ experience in ministry following ordination
• Be able to meet Army officer entry standards, including medical and fitness requirements

Chaplains join as commissioned officers but are non‑combatants and do not carry weapons.
