Job Description

Doctor Graduate - Army Medical Services

Salary: Over £74,000

Overview:

Doctors in the Army Medical Services care for soldiers and their families in challenging and rewarding environments. You’ll deliver high‑quality medical care in barracks, clinics, hospitals and on operations, supporting people when they need it most in the UK and overseas.

You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, often in fast‑paced or complex situations, where clinical judgement, teamwork and resilience really matter. It’s a role for committed medical professionals who want to use their skills in a unique setting, while developing leadership experience and a broader perspective on medicine.

Qualifications required:

To join as a Doctor, you must:

  • Hold a medical degree recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise
  • Have completed Foundation Training (or equivalent)
  • Meet Army officer entry standards, including medical and fitness requirements

Doctors can join at different stages of their career, with opportunities to train and specialise further while serving.

Student Bursary (Up to £75,000): This opportunity is open to students graduating with an Army‑endorsed medical degree who plan to join the Royal Army Medical Service as a commissioned Medical Officer for a minimum of six years.

You’ll receive £10,000 per year, paid in annual instalments over your final three years at university, helping to support you while you study. After successfully completing Officer training, you’ll receive a lump sum of £45,000.

During your two‑year Foundation Programme, you’ll also be paid a full Army salary, giving you financial stability while you continue your medical training and begin your career as an Army doctor.
